Josh;

Fascinating topic to start a new thread! As mentioned in another post, let's keep the conversations going...

Part of children's role is to take care of their parents, at least to some extent, when they are really old.

Good point.

I suppose that's true in many cultures, but in what Vonnegut calls us as the interchangeable cogs of America, especially when Mom and Dad raise the kids in Cleveland but bug out for the retirement home in Arizona while their son Scott stays home in Cleveland but his sister Alexis (I'm having fun with the names here, X-fans ;) ) moves in with her lover in New York City, there are no guarantees on that one.

On that basis alone, that makes it hard (to be sure, not impossible in many instances) for the youngins' to look after the old folks.

On the other hand there are many lonely folk in the nursing home, whose children never call, even though they might all live in the same zip code.

I also think that more liberal people should have children. Anecdotally, it seems like conservative people have more children and thats probably why there are more conservatives out there.

What does "liberal" or "conservative" mean? "Blue state" versus "red state"? Republican (or "Tory") vs. Democrat ("Labour", "Liberal", "New Democrat", "Social Democrat") Though yep, them there conservative folk tend to breed more than liberal ones, especially where women have fewer economic and personal choices or stigma or reproductive freedom, one needs to be careful with labels here, IMHO. (As an aside, I have a truly hard time believing Tory folk in Britain breed more than lower-class Brits--who tend to vote Labour if they vote at all, especially the Muslim onesthough that item itself is another conversation).

Do you plan on having a family and rearing children? Do you take an active role in shaping a young person's life in positive ways?

I think for healthy minded people raising children is an important part of the human and mammalian experience.

In direct answer to your question I'd like to think Lady Caveman and I are healthy-minded. Still, let me get back to you on that one, re, the kid thing.

Lady Caveman has worked with lots of children, and both Lady C. and I are de facto aunts and uncles to many.

Interesting topic :yes: This is just me and not wearing my hat as a mod. I would say I'd be careful how I'd say people are just so, for often I believe we get into trouble (goddess knows I have) when we do that.

I'm in love with the little red-headed girl!
