I've been giving more thought about the "Mummudrai" thing, and Sublime COULD literally be Jean's. Normally, those things aren't supposed to be able to get free and physical and live their own lives, but if Charles's brain and cells were potent enough for one to do that, certainly Jean's would be. If one DID get loose from her like that, he (Given that Chuck's was female, Jean's would be male) would define himself by her, and would see himself as this ancient cosmic force of nature. So, we could have some red haired guy out there taking control of various hosts.

I do figure Vargas is going to end up tying into all this, whenever Claremont gets around to explaining what HE is. CC had Jean and Ororo speculating that he and Cassandra were the same type of being, and he usually doesn't drop something like that in unless it's something he plans to pick up on, later. And he DID make a point of leaving Hank alive (and setting up his current mutation).
