I think a lot of the problem with Rachel is just how a dynamic classic character was essentually divided into three not quite as good characters from the mid-80s through the late-90s. Jean's a character where the whole is greater than the sum of her parts. And really, is it any wonder Jean's relationship with Scott got so screwed up? Put yourself in the poor girl's place. Depending on what her hairstyle was, Scott was either the man she loved, the hated ex she wanted to kill, or "Daddy". And then there was having to bounce from continent to continent because she was on three teams in different parts of the world (with different hair on each team). And the occasional fighting or arguing with herself.

And look at what it did to poor Nate, who inheritied her identity issues and multiple personality disorder. He even started running around as three different people at the same time. That's how one of her personalities got romantically involved with one of HIS personalities. Her being married to her own father had them both really confused on these incest issues :)
