I was sexually abused as a child and one of the worst parts of the aftermath was realizing how few people will even admit to the scope of the problem. Rape/sexual abuse is still this hushed up, shameful thing and it shouldn't be because as long as it is, the victims are going to keep blaming themselves, and the monsters responsible are going to keep getting away with it. Someone can get more jail time for stealing a car, smoking pot, or cheating on their taxes than for raping another human being, and that's just *disgusting*. I always hear 'rapists shouldn't get as much time as murderers, they didn't kill anyone', and that's just not true. Maybe the body didn't die, but part of the soul has.
