*YAWWNNS* I'm so tired! It's almost 3am here, and I'm taking a break from my projects...but I had to reply to this.
I know you're angry, LG, I have known that this whole thing has hit you (and other people) really hard.

But I see nothing wrong with airlifting food to the Afghan people. After all, it's not them that we're fighting against, and the Taliban "government". It is not their fault that the Taliban and their supporters choose to shield bin Laden and his followers. We lost 6,000 people on Sept. 11, and I don't want any more than what is necessary, and it doesn't matter if they are from a place on the other side of the world.
I do know that the US has a higher interest in mind for the food drops than that it is the "right thing to do". Having food may make it easier for the civilian Afghans to not resent us so much for invading their country.
I mean, think about it, how would you or I feel if another country came over here and started bombing us? Granted, we aren't hitting their cities, just military targets, but if our cities were hit, it would be a milion times worse than the WTC and Pentagon bombings...
Besides, with 1.5 million Afghans on the move, fleeing from the cities into the desert, they will need that food badly, because winter is coming. I would hate it if the US was the cause of all these people dying from cold and hunger and just plain lack of care....and these people are the smart ones. The ones who stayed behind were told by the authorities to go to certain meeting areas with any guns in hand, and once they got there, they were immediately pressed into military service. Some of them as young as 13 years old.
It's not the Afghans we're fighting against, but terrorism, and it would be nice if we could make this go as smoothly as possible for them. But what I DON"T want is the Taliban to get their hands on that food...the news was talking about that, and they said that the military is creating strageties to drop the food where it is needed, not in the heart of the Taliban strongholds.

We are really lucky you know...to have the government that we have. the Taliban treat their people in such a horrible way.

As for the Arab guy and the American guy...it was stupid of the Arab to talk like that , and it ws stupid of the American guy to beat him up. It's a lose-lose situation..No one learns from the experience at all.

Oh, I also heard from a Pakistani girl who lives on my floor that the Taliban made it legal for a man to rape women. I've heard in places over there where women are oppressed, if you have relations before you are married or have a affair, you are considered impure and ruined, and then you are stoned to death because of it. Rape is also under this catergory, and the poor woman has no way out...it's legal to be raped, and then you get stoned for it. >:
