*looks at Dini and is impressed* :p

Oh and John, sorry, PA wasn't exactly on the way to VA, or I would have brought you along. :p

As for my comment about Eowyn...LOTR basically has three big female characters (ok, 4 with the spider): Galadriel, Arwen, and Eowyn. To put it in the words of one of my professors, "Eowyn is the only fully realized woman." Galadriel and Arwen are elves, so it's hard to relate to them because they aren't human. I never really feel that I understand them or their motives totally. They are guided by prophecy and magic. They represent ideas or concepts, not people. Eowyn is a person. You can get inside her and speculate what drives her actions. It makes sense that she has feelings for Aragorn. We just have to take the author/director's word that Arwen and Aragorn are an item. I have never been satisfied with any explaination of their relationship. Without giving away too much info from the third book, I feel that Eowyn is braver, stronger, and all around cooler (dude, she fights!) than Galadriel and Arwen (who I have never liked much for some reason). I also feel sorry for Eowyn because of what happens to her in terms of love. Dave has tried to tell me that she only liked Aragorn because of his power, but I don't buy that. So when she ends up with someone else, I feel like she is settling for less because she is afraid she won't find anything better. Galadriel and Arwen do not invoke such feelings in me. Mostly, they make me feel confused. :p

Does that answer your question, Dini? Man, you must be rubbing off on me because that was my answer in a "Dini nutshell." ;) And look at my growing use of emoticons!
