"But we know there's more than that at stake. It's money that's the bottom line. Married couples get tax breaks that single people can't get. Married couples have rights and privileges not accorded to single people.
Behind the moral pontification, there's something else that drives the people who don't want gay marriage....and that's cold hard cash."
I'd add, who is this government to give married couples extra benefits?
Perhaps they should end marital status discrimination.
I'd agree, ultimately, that more time and as an older generation passes it will be more acceptable to have gay unions legally recognized.
But along those lines, why are some gays trying to recreate a fair tale man/wife marriage within the context of the so called gay community?
Few gay guys I know are with any one guy longer than one year, and to be honest, a lot of gay love affairs are lucky if they can last more the one night!
The true controversy won't be the gay marriage, it will be the gay divorcee! I knew one guy who went through so called husbands on at least a weekly basis, were marriage legal he would have had 50 husbands.
Also, long lasting gay affairs (those that last years, if not decades), seem to work best if there is one sugar daddy to one dependant! I've seen a lot of those relationshiips last years, and those types of couples will stay together for decades as they become truly co dependant in the sense that two spouses, a parent or child, or twio siblings.
If neither has the money, or if all things are equal, gay men at the most do it a few times and it is splitsville!
