The US has no official religion. We have seperation of church and state.

For those people who wish same sex marriages, all they have to do is what is done in San Francisco now. Go to the courthouse, and get married.

Those gay couples are paying taxes, if the state gives marriages to tax paying heterosexual people, then the state itself has no right to discriminate against tax paying gay people.

Constutionally, there is no basis for a ban against gay marriage.

The same people who want gay marriage illegal were those who wanted to keep sodomy illegal (which technically means most straight couples should also be arrested, for going downtown on either the man or the woman)

Thank god the surpreme court ruled the anti sodomy laws unconstitutional. Mind you, 7 out of 9 justices are conservative Republicans. Justice Kennedy, a Republican, said that the anti sodomy laws took dignity away from gays. Justice O'Conner, said the laws were punishing gay people for deviant sexual behavior, but not punishing straight people for deviant sexual behavior (most straight couples have at least done oral and/anal).

Likewise, why should consenting gay adults be denied the right to marry, if consenting straight adults are?

As far as some conservatives being angry and the courts ruling, stuff it! This is a constitutional republic. If they need a religious theocracy they are free to move to Saudi Arabia!
