TO answer one of Star's original questions, I don't think there's a chance in hell gay marriage will pass! Bush recently has been accused of only favoring corporations. Even his plan to legalize illegals was mainly done to benefit the business sectors. So then, Bush would have to do something to satisfy his right-wing constituency. And the civil disobedience in San Fransisco gave him all the excuse he needed for a constitutional ban on gay marriages.

Currently most state legislatures are against gay marriage. So if the Congress does as Bush asks, they will not be gay marriage for a very long time in the US.

Bush said he was open and ok with gays having other unions, just not marriage. Which goes along with what Phoenicks wanted, and it may very will be what people will have to accept.

In the case of Lawrence versus Texas, the public as awhole supported getting rid of the anti-sodomy laws (probably because most people, including straights, do it, especially oral). However, there does not seem to be mass acceptance of gay marriages, instead, you either have indifference, or hostility.
