5. English Patient- Oh my goodness, this movie could not have been put together any better, the way the story unfolds is just INCREDIBLE. To me, it is the closet any one has ever gotten to recreating the feeling that Casablanca. It is profound, beatifully shot, the acting is great. Again, I love this wwII era. and the love scenes were incredibly hot. There are several layers to the movie, and I love what it says about ownership (on several layers, how we feel we own the earth, how we feel we belong to a country, how we feel like we belong to one another husband/wife. etc etc)

I've always had a lot of basic problems with The English Patient, and see it more as the Anti-Casablanca. In Casablanca, Rick did the right thing, realized that there was something more important than his love life. This guy, on the other hand, gives secrets to the NAZIS, which probably gets a lot of Allied soldiers trying to liberate Europe killed, and helps the people who are, at that moment, shoving twelve million people, including six million Jews, into ovens, JUST so he can go be with his girlfriend. Sorry, but I can't see being a Nazi spy and supporter actively helping the Holocaust along as the romantic, heroic, thing this movie played it as.
