Delvian;

Ann C. in the rapture? Hardly. Methinks she has the number 666 embraded on the back of her skull.

I know you were having fun, but ah, it's time for me to vent about true treason in our land.

As a lifelong Republican, a liberal one at that be it as it may, it is such a sad statement of our society that the institution I still hold allegiance to, such as it is, is the party of fear, hate, warmongering, sexism, homophobia and the absolute disregard for the planet and its future for the sole purpose of the maintenance and enhancement of power.

Last Monday, I had the opportunity to meet the man who really inspired me to become involved in politics, and the Republican party. He is former governor William Milliken of Michigan, who served as Michigan's governor (where I grew up). He served as governor from 1969 through 1982 (and lieutenant governor for several years before that). He currently serves on the board of the Michigan ACLU, was an outspoken leader on environmental protection, especially for the Great Lakes, cared about women's rights and for minorities, gave a damn about embattled Detroit and all its problems, was a civil and decent gentleman...and he's a Republican, go figure!

Even then to many in his party he was seen an aberration, something to be outcast. Once he retired Michigan fell in lockstep with the rest of the Republican party, with all its warts (one of its cheerleaders being Ann Coulter, who is probably more honest than many on what the modern Republican party is really all about).

John C., Ann Coulter is a hateful woman who believes that anyone who disagrees with the president is treasonous and should be treated accordingly, that we should start a modern Crusade eliminating all of the Muslim nations, amongst other gems. From an X-Man perspective, think of Emma Frost circa Uncanny X-Men #129 during the "canon" Dark Phoenix saga and you have the total picture (well, maybe not the TK/TP/diamond business but given how too many people love Coulter one wonders), a physically comely but menacingly bad blond woman.

I may be Republican in name. I will not tolerate the hate, the divisiveness, the cynicism and the greed that Bush II and Coulter are all about. It is those people that are a disgrace to this nation and everything the Republican party was all about. I guess I'm just a bigot against bigots.

I wish that people like Bill Milliken and John Anderson and others had fought harder. The problem with a "moderate" philosphy is that it comes across as that, and those who ascribe to it battle moderately, with not enough of a grass roots effort.

Sorry, a nerve was touched tonight. It is people like Milliken and his Republican party to which I hold my allegiance, those who serve and look out for EVERYONE and the planet, not just a few at the expense of others ruled by fear, divisiveness, and greed.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

Caveman

I'm in love with the little red-headed girl!
