I'll let others speak for themselves.

Personally, I like Rachel, and I agree, while similiar, they aren't the same bird (sic). I also agree that some on this board are a bit too hard on her. But hey, it's a free board, and there's really no harm done to loving/hating a purely fictional character/person, especially by those whose views I take with a great deal of weight on this board.

My bet is Marvel has concluded that the Scott/Jean relationship has run its course, and that Jean is, in so many words, too unmanageable in terms of storyline baggage and unwieldy in terms of power to use.

I am somewhat heartened at least that they have not utterly abandoned the Phoenix concept in Rachel. Yes, she is essentially Jean, in terms of powers, without the "godhood/Dark Phoenix" issues.

She's essentially Phoenix-lite, right down to ability to fly, instantly change her clothes, a very powerful TKTP. That sounds like a "phoenix" to me, and operationally, in an "ensemble" book like Uncanny, that would be appropriate.

Otherwise it would be Jean having "amnesia" about her powers and abilities, as well as the complicated baggage of will she / won't she become a god again. Unwieldy.

Now, this is not to say I approve or agree with what has been written above, but with only this spot analysis and utterly ignorant of current storylines or the industry, methinks this might be where Marvel is coming from.

Also, to be sure I found "End of Greys" graphic, sadistic, and utterly unnecessary for good storywriting.

Still, if Jean's never coming back, I'd settle for Rachel. I'm sure we'll hear very strong contrary and certainly valid opinions otherwise.
