Lordy loo! Whatever you think of Miss Ray-Ray, it's always a hoot and a half to see the reactions she generates in both boosters and opponents alike. :lol

I vacilliate when it comes to Ray. She has shown glimmers of potential...but given that the character has beena round now...what...nearly 15, 20 years...and most people are still waiting for a payoff on the promise.

I liked Ray when she was first introduced, but then came then whole Mojo nonsese. Whenever a character has a run in with Mojo, it's always a bad sign.

I liked Ray during very early Excalibur when she was all attitude and passion, but that fizzled out quickly.

I liked Ray when Alan Davis came back to Excalibur. I know Davis introduced Feron and the Anti-Phoenix, which many find distasteful, but I liked how Davis (perhaps influenced by Claremont admittedly) portrayed Rachel's connection to the Phoenix Force, how it saved her life and yet ulimately kept her from being normal.

But now...Rachel Grey? Marvel Girl III? Schooled by Emma, shown up by Psylocke, and devolved by dinos? Ray's been reduced to a piker when it comes to her powers, morphing into a petulant child mooning over the legacy of a mother who technically is not her mother.

Cable has more of a right to call Jean his mom since she helped to raise him in the future. 616 Jean never did any child rearing with Rachel. They met as adults with no previous connection. Yes, they had become friendly, but by no means did we ever get a mother-daughter relationship going between them.

Rachel has TK and TP just like Jean. Not a crime for two characters to have the same set of powers. Rachel's managed to use her abilities in ways Jean has not, so that's one thing I'll credit to her.

However, she needs to drop the codename, the uniform, and the idiotic Grey surname. (It's Summers. It was Summers in her original timeline. It's still Summers here. Hate it all you want, Ray-Ray, but you are a Summers!)

:rachel: But look! I've got a Phoenix tat and everything!

:emma: Tatty is certainly applicable to you, dear.

:jean: Quit knocking my knockoff, you knockered knucklehead.
