Jean was dead for what six years last time. The only mentions of her were because of Maddle or Rachel. The X-Men had moved on. Now that Jean Grey is dead once again, she is but a memory. I don't feel that she is still a big part of the X-Men, their heart. She is not because the X-Men are no longer what they were they have evolved, they are changed and now that the world has changed after House of M, Jean is even further displaced. These aren't even Xavier's X-Men. Someone mentioned about Psylocke and Colossus being dead and people not mentioning them. They were referred to just as much as Jean Grey, but because of the "dead is dead" order that Marvel had, they could not come back. Phoenix the Endsong only occurred as a result of an idea that Greg Pak had for the character. Also, it stil didn't resolve too much as Jean was no longer among the living. And please, no she's collecting her pieces in the white hot room 'cause that just crazy talk. She cannot exist in the physical world so she's dead. Maybe not rotting in the ground dead, but still not among the living.

I still think that if they do bring Jean Grey back it will be at least a couple of years down the road. House of M has brought a lot of changes and things for Marvel to deal with for the next year or so Jean will more than likely shoved further and further in the background. Jean isn't part of the Marvel universe anymore not because Rachel Grey exists, but because she doesn't fit within Marvel's new world order. If Jean were back, then she could dissect the future once again and put things back to the way they were. I blame Morrison for that one. Jean shouldn't be that powerful because then there is no point to even having her around.
