Awwww. Unfortunately attempts to legislate morality never work. The government banned alcohol, we see how well prohibition worked. The so called war on drugs? Please, anyone who wants to get drugs can get them. The illegalization of prostitution? Oops, anyone who wants to buy sex can do that as well. Adultery and other things you may not like will always be with us.
Irrelevant to the topic of if it is moral or ethical...

There is one foolproof way of having a spouse that never cheats. Never get MARRIED!
also irrelevant...

And if someone really, and truly LOVED someone, then the fact that spouse cheated on them, while it might HURT them, wouldn't destroy them as they would be able to FORGIVE the cheater. Everyone has said something or done something to hurt someone's feelings ,and just as you would like to be forgiven for your transgressions, you should be able to forgive others. Anything less reveals a vile person full of HATE who is trying to cover up his/her hatred in a cloak of false morality!
Its not about hate or forgiveness, but trust. Once that trust has been eroded it is very very very hard to repair, forgiveness or not. At least you seem to have accepted that adultery is a transgression against the bond of marriage.
