If Brevoort passes for what an editor is nowadays ya I'd say Marvel should just focus on there movie franchise's and let the comic books go. The profit margin on a lot of these books is already horribly thin and unless they slash the digital prices alot there really isn't a future. On top of that he seems rude like Quesada, it's not hard to answer a question and if you answer it correctly the first time maybe people wont keep asking it or you could just refer them to that answer.
One of the Editor's most important jobs is continuity it's even stated on there for hire job description. So you would think question's pertaining to a possible, "Breach" of continuity would be of a most pressing concern to an editor. If as a company your gonna ignore whole plot lines and when asked about it give snoody venomous quips I guess that's your prerogative but it is in no way fan friendly. In fact it's a big %*$& you to anyone who bought there previous books in the manner of what you read didn't matter, it was just a fun ride i.e. Brand New Day.
What an Editor should do and even more so a CEO(CCO, Chief Editor, take your pick) is preserve continuity while still expanding it through good story telling. They should tell those working under them that
any
story is game as long as you can create a convincing plot that
respects
both the continuity and works of previous writers. Sure you would have to be more creative and do your research so you cant just wave the continuity wand and reset things or worse just flat out ignore them. In fact they should go in so far as to make any character and anything you want to do to them game.
Personally I'd have No more revolving door of death, I'd bring everyone back in an event and state as a company and in continuity that death is permanent and actually means something again and isn't just sensationalism(Cable was gone all what 6 months). I think Thor v2 80-85 (Ragnarok) states it best as when character's/hero's die and are brought back continuously it cheapens there death and there memory every time. That's why sacrifice's are so are so dramatic because you only get to do them once. You want to kill Wolverine and the 32 books he appears in go right ahead just make it a damn plausible story. Of course your probably not going to kill your most popular character(Blame Superman) but that shouldn't mean it's of the table and shouldn't be thrown around. I'd remove 90% of tie ins and extra books as there just confusing when a character mentions something that happened in one while in the main story and are just money grabs. I think the Future Foundation and the Fantastic Four are great examples of what a comic should be. You only have to pick up the main book to know whats going on, no missed storytelling one book one month. Hickman even acknowledges it in the fan page and harkens back to when all you needed for the complete story was one simple easy to follow book.
