The Lying in the Gutters column at the Comic Book Resources website has posted more gossip about the rumor BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER creator Joss Whedon is set to take over the writing chores on Marvel Comics' NEW X-MEN. According to columnist Rich Johnston, Whedon's start on the title won't begin until at least 12 issues after current NEW X-MEN writer Grant Morrison departs the book (his final issue is scheduled to be #154.)
Johnston lays further speculation by repeating what he was whispered by another source: X-STATIX writer Pete Milligan and 1602 scribe Neil Gaiman will write NEW X-MEN for six issues each.
Gaiman, the writer and co-creator of DC Comics' SANDMAN series, has denied any future involvement with NEW X-MEN. As well, there is a report that Joss Whedon was asked to comment on his possible involvement on the book at a recent Los Angeles science fiction convention. According to All the Rage (which last week ignited the Whedon talk by being the first gossip column to mention his name), Whedon said he would not be writing the book.
