Whoops! Some how I made a mistake and posted this thread in the Phoenix Cafe, but I thought I'd mention it over here in case anyone was interested..
I was doing some poking around (a result of a new interest in the time peroid since 1602.) Any how, I'm completely entralled with the story of the Lady Jane Grey, who was the nine days queen. She was a reluctant queen, but did her duty as it was Edward's (her cousin, the King before her) wish. (she was only 16/17!) Bloody Mary took her throne and had her beheaded. (But of course, some one of Jane's line, that is, the Tudor line, would have the throne after Mary......Elizabeth.)
Anyhow, there is a LOT more to her story, and in several ways she REALLY resembles miss Jean Grey.
Here are a couple pics, but there are a LOT more over in the Phoenix Cafe should ya'll be interested.....

Eyewitness account at her execution said she was full of courage and grace. When the blindfold was placed over her head, she could not find the block where she was suppose to place her head. she said "Where is it? how do i find it?" either the bishop, or somebody from the crowd helped her find it.

detail.......

This engraving by Wyngarde has an accompanying inscription in Latin, which reads: O Royal shoot, I encircled you with a tragic crown, but the almighty gave you a better kingdom hereafter.' A quote by Wynegarde (familiar names all over the place, eh?)
