So... I just got caught up with this amazing cartoon. I loved it. Except the long delays between new eps. and for some reason the people that schedule the
cartoons do a piss poor job (sometimes didn't record, or got cut off).
Anyways, the last 3 eps played out like a mini movie and was basically a re-telling of the Dark Phoenix Saga. I wish that they could have a cartoon that is in continuity like the classic Fox cartoon when I was a kid. Anyway, Jean was front and center and I loved it. That is, until the end.
I'm not sure if it was discussed here or not since I don't read spoilers.
Apparently NO ONE can contain the Phoenix, for centuries/millenia whenever a child is born with the PF, when that child matures the PF manifests and causes death and desturction... The Hellfire Club (it kinda goes with the name so that was cool) exists for the sole purpose of finding this child to rid it of the PF. This child is Jean. They make Emma join the X-men to carry out their plan but it backfires and blah blah blah. So the Hellfire Club's original plan of killing the Phoenix (by ridding it of Jean; having no psychic host then dies), gets changed (unbeknowst to Emma) and the new plan is to have the 5 Cuckoos have the PF cuz then the Hellfire Club could control it. Emma is super against this (by this time the X-Men feel as if Emma betrayed them), in the end EMMA gets the Phoenix as it was going to rejoin Jean, turns into her diamond form and the Phoenix breaks free, shattering her to a thousand pieces (only part I DID like) and slowly burns away. Scott hugs Jean but looks at Emma's pieces longingly.
UGHHHH!!!! So yeah, Jeans' alive, which is great, but why are they giving away the best part of the story (Jean's heroic sacrifice) to Emma. It's like Jean's very character is being stalked and stripped away by Emma. First Scott, then she's headmistress (which should be JEAN!), now she's "Omega Class" and now the Phoenix...
you can't utter the word Jean without slipping in an Emma now. It's terrible. Why is Marvel pushing her down out throats. I actually used to like her, but C'MON!!!!!
